Illinois crop progress for week ending May 24

There were 4.1 days suitable for fieldwork in Illinois for the week ending May 24, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 4% very short, 12% short, 68% adequate, and 16% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 4% very short, 14% short, 67% adequate, and 15% surplus.

Corn planted reached 86%, compared to 81% last year, and the five-year average of 84%. Corn emerged reached 68%, compared to 68% last year, and the five-year average of 67%.

Soybeans planted reached 84%, compared to 74% last year, and the five-year average of 75%. Soybeans emerged reached 61%, compared to 56% last year, and the five-year average of 52%.

Winter wheat headed reached 88%, compared to 71% last year, and the five-year average of 84%. Winter wheat condition was rated 2% very poor, 5% poor, 23% fair, 57% good, and 13% excellent.

Pasture and range conditions were rated 1% very poor, 5% poor, 28% fair, 49% good, and 17% excellent.
