Indiana crop progress for week ending May 17

There were 4.6 days suitable for fieldwork in Indiana for the week ending May 17, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 4% very short, 12% short, 70% adequate, and 14% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 6% very short, 15% short, 70% adequate, and 9% surplus.

Corn planted reached 67%, compared to 61% last year, and the five-year average of 57%. Corn emerged reached 42%, compared to 36% last year, and the five-year average of 29%.

Soybeans planted reached 67%, compared to 56% last year, and the five-year average of 50%. Soybeans emerged reached 42%, compared to 29% last year, and the five-year average of 23%.

Winter wheat headed reached 56%, compared to 48% last year, and the five-year average of 42%. Winter wheat condition was rated 2% very poor, 4% poor, 21% fair, 58% good, and 15% excellent.

Pasture and range conditions were rated 2% very poor, 5% poor, 28% fair, 56% good, and 9% excellent.
