Illinois crop progress for week ending April 26

There were 4.7 days suitable for fieldwork in Illinois for the week ending April 26, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 7% very short, 17% short, 70% adequate, and 6% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 10% very short, 28% short, 57% adequate, and 5% surplus.

Corn planted reached 29%, compared to 15% last year, and the five-year average of 19%. Corn emerged reached 12%, compared to 2% last year, and the five-year average of 2%.

Soybeans planted reached 36%, compared to 20% last year, and the five-year average of 18%. Soybeans emerged reached 15%, compared to 3% last year, and the five-year average of 2%.

Winter wheat headed reached 36%, compared to 14% last year, and the five-year average of 13%. Winter wheat condition was rated 2% very poor, 6% poor, 25% fair, 58% good, and 9% excellent.
