Illinois crop progress for week ending April 19

There were 3.5 days suitable for fieldwork in Illinois for the week ending April 19, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 6% very short, 16% short, 67% adequate, and 11% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 9% very short, 28% short, 57% adequate, and 6% surplus.

Corn planted reached 13%, compared to 6% last year, and the five-year average of 8%. Corn emerged reached 3%, compared to 0% last year, and the five-year average of 0%.

Soybeans planted reached 20%, compared to 9% last year, and the five-year average of 7%.

Winter wheat headed reached 18%, compared to 4% last year, and the five-year average of 6%. Winter wheat condition was rated 2% very poor, 5% poor, 29% fair, 55% good, and 9% excellent.
