There were 3.5 days suitable for fieldwork in the week ending May 25, according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service, Indiana Field Office.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 3% very short, 10% short, 71% adequate, and 16% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 5% very short, 14% short, 70% adequate, and 11% surplus.

Corn planted reached 76%, compared to 70% last year, and the five-year average of 79%. Corn emerged reached 57%, compared to 47% last year, and the five-year average of 54%. Corn condition was rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 25% fair, 59% good, and 11% excellent.

Soybeans planted reached 71%, compared to 66% last year, and the five-year average of 69%. Soybeans emerged reached 49%, compared to 42% last year, and the five-year average of 43%.

Winter wheat jointing reached 94%, compared to 97% last year, and the five-year average of 94%. Winter wheat headed reached 68%, compared to 80% last year, and the five-year average of 62%. Winter wheat condition was rated 1% very poor, 3% poor, 19% fair, 60% good, and 17% excellent.
