Indiana crop progress for week ending May 11

There were 4 days suitable for fieldwork in the week ending May 11, according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service, Indiana Field Office.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 2% very short, 7% short, 72% adequate, and 19% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 3% very short, 13% short, 68% adequate, and 16% surplus.

Corn planted reached 45%, compared to 34% last year, and the five-year average of 42%. Corn emerged reached 19%, compared to 14% last year, and the five-year average of 14%.

Soybeans planted reached 41%, compared to 32% last year, and the five-year average of 34%. Soybeans emerged reached 14%, compared to 13% last year, and the five-year average of 10%.

Winter wheat jointing reached 78%, compared to 87% last year, and the five-year average of 80%. Winter wheat headed reached 31%, compared to 43% last year, and the five-year average of 26%. Winter wheat condition was rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 24% fair, 55% good, and 16% excellent.
