Illinois crop progress for week ending May 11

There were 4.8 days suitable for fieldwork in the week ending May 11, according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service, Heartland Regional Field Office.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 3% very short, 16% short, 54% adequate, and 27% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 4% very short, 18% short, 55% adequate, and 23% surplus.

Corn planted reached 54%, compared to 41% last year, and the five-year average of 60%. Corn emerged reached 25%, compared to 23% last year, and the five-year average of 26%.

Soybeans planted reached 51%, compared to 38% last year, and the five-year average of 48%. Soybeans emerged reached 22%, compared to 19% last year, and the five-year average of 18%.

Winter wheat headed reached 46%, compared to 80% last year, and the five-year average of 57%. Winter wheat condition was rated 1% very poor, 5% poor, 34% fair, 49% good, and 11% excellent.
