Illinois crop progress for week ending April 27

There were 3.1 days suitable for fieldwork in the week ending April 27, according to the USDA, National Agricultural Statistics Service, Heartland Regional Field Office.

Statewide, the average temperature was 59.6 degrees, 3.8 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 1.10 inches, 0.26 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 1% very short, 10% short, 66% adequate, and 23% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 2% very short, 14% short, 66% adequate, and 18% surplus.

Corn planted reached 16%, compared to 23% last year, and the five-year average of 26%. Corn emerged reached 2%, compared to 5% last year, and the five-year average of 3%.

Soybeans planted reached 22%, compared to 24% last year, and the five-year average of 20%. Soybeans emerged reached 4%, compared to 4% last year, and the five-year average of 2%.

Winter wheat headed reached 16%, compared to 15% last year, and the five-year average of 12%. Winter wheat condition was rated 2% very poor, 4% poor, 37% fair, 49% good, and 8% excellent.
