Indiana crop progress for the week ending Oct. 20

There were 6.7 days suitable for fieldwork in the week ending Oct. 20, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service Indiana Field Office. Statewide, the average temperature was 50.0 degrees, 3.1 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 0.13 inches, 0.64 inches below normal.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 26% very short, 43% short, 30% adequate, and 1% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 26% very short, 44% short, 29% adequate, and 1% surplus.

Corn harvested for grain reached 61%, compared to 39% last year, and the five-year average of 45%.

Soybeans harvested reached 75%, compared to 61% last year, and the five-year average of 62%.

Winter wheat planted reached 59%, compared to 52% last year, and the five-year average of 60%. Winter wheat emerged reached 26%, compared to 19% last year, and the five-year average of 25%.
