Illinois crop progress for the week ending Oct. 13

There were 6.9 days suitable for fieldwork in the week ending Oct. 13, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service Illinois Field Office. Statewide, the average temperature was 61.2 degrees, 5.5 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0 inches, 0.53 inches below normal.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 12% very short, 46% short, and 42% adequate. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 13% very short, 45% short, and 42% adequate. Corn mature reached 97%, compared to the five-year average of 89%.

Corn harvested reached 49%, compared to the five-year average of 44%. Corn condition was rated 1% very poor, 5% poor, 18% fair, 55% good, and 21% excellent.

Soybeans dropping leaves reached 93%, compared to the five-year average of 91%. Soybeans harvested reached 62%, compared to the five-year average of 47%. Soybeans condition was rated 1% very poor, 5% poor, 24% fair, 57% good, and 13% excellent.

Winter wheat planted reached 33%, compared to the five-year average of 39%. Winter wheat emerged reached 9%, compared to the five-year average of 13%.
