There were 6.8 days suitable for fieldwork in the week ending Sept. 15, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service Illinois Field Office. Statewide, the average temperature was 69.1 degrees, 0.8 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.25 inches, 0.54 inches below normal.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 22% very short, 36% short, and 42% adequate. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 19% very short, 34% short, and 47% adequate.

Corn dented reached 93%, compared to 92% last year, and the five-year average of 84%. Corn mature reached 63%, compared to 62% last year, and the five-year average of 40%. Corn harvested reached 7%, compared to 5% last year, and the five-year average of 3%. Corn condition was rated 1% very poor, 4% poor, 18% fair, 56% good, and 21% excellent.

Soybeans dropping leaves reached 62%, compared to 55% last year, and the five-year average of 31%. Soybeans harvested reached 6%, compared to 1% last year, and the five-year average of 1%. Soybeans condition was rated 2% very poor, 5% poor, 21% fair, 54% good, and 18% excellent.
