There were 4.1 days suitable for fieldwork in the week ending July 14, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service Indiana Field Office. Statewide, the average temperature was 75.3 degrees, 0.1 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 2.23 inches, 1.31 inches above normal.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 4% very short, 16% short, 62% adequate, and 18% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 6% very short, 22% short, 61% adequate, and 11% surplus.

Corn silking reached 42%, compared to 33% last year, and the five-year average of 30%. Corn dough reached 3%, compared to 3% last year, and the five-year average of 2%. Corn condition was rated 3% very poor, 6% poor, 24% fair, 54% good, and 13% excellent.

Soybeans blooming reached 51%, compared to 36% last year, and the five-year average of 36%. Soybeans setting pods reached 21%, compared to 7% last year, and the five-year average of 8%. Soybeans condition was rated 2% very poor, 6% poor, 25% fair, 56% good, and 11% excellent.

Winter wheat harvested for grain reached 94%, compared to 81% last year, and the five-year average of 84%.
