Calendar: Homemade Pretzel Making Workshop

EFFINGHAM, Ill. — The Homemade Pretzel Making Workshop will be 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Jan. 6 at the Effingham County Extension office, 1209 N. Wenthe Drive, Effingham.

Youth participants will learn how to make pretzel dough and different techniques for shaping, baking, and serving.

New Year, New You

JOLIET, Ill. — The program New Year, New You: Scrubs, Candles, and Zen Gardens will be from 9 a.m. to noon Jan. 3, and 1 to 4 p.m. Jan. 4 at the Will County Extension office, 100 Manhattan Road, Joliet.

Participants ages 8 to 18 will create their own spa products and indulge in a fun-filled experience.

Winter Wonderland

FREEPORT, Ill. — The Wee Naturalists program Winter Wonderland will be 9:30 to 11 a.m. Jan. 6 at Highland Community College, Building R, 2998 W. Pearl City Road, Freeport.

Children ages 4 to 7 will learn about different environmental education topics through a story, activity, craft and a hike.

Youth Sewing

ALBION, Ill. — The Edwards County Youth Sewing Workshop will be 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Jan. 6 and Feb. 3 at the Gena Drake residence, 155 County Rd 1550 N, Albion.

Participants ages 8 to 18 will make a standard pillowcase with a French seam, and a drawstring bag.

Flower Arranging

ROCKFORD, Ill. — The Youth Flower Arranging Workshop will be 2:30 to 4:30 p.m. Jan. 7 at the Winnebago-Boone County Farm Bureau, 1925 S. Meridian Road, Rockford.

Participants ages 8 to 18 will create a beautiful live flower arrangement in a mason jar.

Tree Stewards

PORTAGE, Ind. — Indiana Department of Natural Resources is offering the Advanced Tree Stewards workshop from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. CT Jan. 8 at Northwestern Indiana Regional Planning Commission, 6100 Southport Road, Portage.

This one-day workshop, led by Steve Lane from Great Lakes Urban Forestry Management, will focus on introducing geographic information system applications in urban forestry.

Remote Work

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The online Remote Work Professional certificate course will begin 3 to 4 p.m. ET Jan. 8. The course combines online work with interactive workshops designed to equip workers with the tools and skills needed to work from home as a remote worker, freelancer, or entrepreneur.

Specific objectives and outcomes for each module of the course are identified at the beginning of each set of modules. The program consists of nine core modules, delivered in a self-paced, online format, and four interactive workshops.

Legislative Luncheon

INDIANAPOLIS — The Purdue Council for Agricultural Research, Extension, and Teaching Legislative Luncheon will begin at noon ET Jan. 9 at the Indiana Rooftop Ballroom, 140 W. Washington St., Indianapolis.

Running for Office

GREENCASTLE, Ind. — Have you ever considered running for a local government office? Join Purdue Extension and the Putnam County Clerk’s Office to learn more about the process for running for local office, requirements and positions up for election in 2024.

The program will be 6 to 8 p.m. ET Jan. 9 at the Putnam County Fairgrounds, York Auto Building, 191 N US Hwy 231, Greencastle.

This program is conducted in collaboration with the county clerk, local political parties and other past elected officials to create a community of local political knowledge and participation.
