Calendar: Explore beef cattle veterinary topics

CAMPBELLSBURG, Ind. — Purdue Extension – Lawrence County, Purdue Extension – Washington County, Spring Mill Veterinary Service, and Washington County Cattlemen’s Association are offering Vet 107, a continuation of the Vet 101 program started in 2017. The program will be 6 to 8 p.m. ET Dec. 11 at the Jane Nicholson & Son Farm LLC, 607 N. Purkhiser Road, Campbellsburg.

Beef cattle veterinary topics will include rumen health, implants, ionophores and recordkeeping.

Tree Care

URBANA, Ill. — The online program Collective Tree Care: It Takes a Community to Strengthen Tree Health will be 9 to 11 a.m. Dec. 11.

Participants will learn to identify tree stressors in community environments, hazardous tree defects, and assess and mitigate risk.

Evergreen Wreaths

MONTICELLO, Ill. — Create evergreen wreaths with DeWitt and Piatt County master gardeners from 6 to 7 p.m. Dec. 11 at First Presbyterian Church, 214 S. Charter St., Monticello.

Participants will learn about the different types of evergreens and create an evergreen wreath to take home.

The program will be repeated 6 to 7 p.m. Dec. 12 at Outreach community center, 701 E. Clinton Ave, Farmer City; and 1 to 2 p.m. Dec. 13 at First Presbyterian Church, 214 S. Charter St., Monticello.

End-of-Year Gathering

PEKIN, Ill. — The Fulton-Mason-Peoria-Tazewell Unit Master Volunteer End-of-Year Gathering will be 5 p.m. Dec. 12 at Miller Center, 1701 Court St., Pekin.

Extension master gardeners and master naturalists are invited to come together for a festive end-of-year celebration; bring your favorite dish to share. Master volunteers will be recognized for years of service.

Evergreen Holiday Centerpiece

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — Create an evergreen centerpiece for your holiday table from 6 to 8 p.m. ET Dec. 13 at Young’s Greenhouse, 5867 Lake Ave., Fort Wayne.

All supplies will be included to create the centerpiece. Participants should bring a holiday container to complete their creations.

Purdue Development Conference

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — The Purdue Development Conference will be 8:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. ET Dec. 13 and 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. Dec. 14 at the Tippecanoe County 4-H Fairgrounds, 1406 Teal Road, Lafayette.

Professional development will be offered for campus and field-based Extension professionals via presentations, roundtable discussions, and posters/displays on each day of the conference.

This conference includes networking for county Extension educators, Purdue Extension specialists, along with other Extension partners. There also will be an awards luncheon from 11:45 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 14.

Candy-making Workshop

CARLINVILLE, Ill. — The 4-H Candy-making Workshop will be 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 13 at the Macoupin County Extension office, 60 Carlinville Plaza, Carlinville.

HAGERSTOWN, Ind. — The Indiana Beef Cattle Association Area 7 Beef Meeting will be 6:30 pm. Dec. 14 at Willie & Red’s Buffet, 40 E. Main St., Hagerstown.

Included will be updates from the Indiana Beef Cattle Association and Indiana Beef Council, Indiana State Board of Animal Health, and Purdue Extension.

Pesticide Applicator Workshop

FORT WAYNE, Ind. — The Commercial Pesticide Applicator Workshop will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET Dec. 15 at Walb Student Union Classic Ballroom at the Purdue Fort Wayne campus, Union Circle Drive, Fort Wayne.

There are multiple license categories for continuing credit hours, as well as private pesticide applicator credits. Individuals who do not have an applicator license may also register and attend this workshop.

Cinnamon Rolls

EFFINGHAM, Ill. — The Cinnamon Roll Workshop will be 9 a.m. Dec. 16 at the Effingham County Extension office, 1209 N. Wenthe Drive, Effingham.

Learn how to make homemade cinnamon rolls and different techniques for shaping, baking, and serving. Participants will work together with other youths in a fun, hands-on environment.

INDIANAPOLIS — An open house at the new 4-H INDY (Igniting New Discovery in Youth) STEAM makerspace will be 1 to 4 p.m. ET Dec. 16 at the Indiana State Fairgrounds Discovery Hall, 1202 E. 38th St., Suite 202, Indianapolis.

4-H INDY provides a place for young people to learn, collaborate and explore. The space will offer hands-on learning opportunities focused on agriculture/STEM, civic engagement, healthy living, and volunteer development.
