Indiana crop progress for the week ending Nov. 5

There were 5.4 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending Nov. 5, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service Indiana Field Office. Statewide, the average temperature was 42.6 degrees, 6.9 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 0.38 inches, 0.37 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 6% very short, 23% short, 66% adequate, and 5% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 14% very short, 30% short, 53% adequate, and 3% surplus.

Corn harvested reached 68%, compared to the five-year average of 76%. Soybeans harvested reached 87%, compared to the five-year average of 85%. Winter wheat planted reached 84%, compared to the five-year average of 88%. Winter wheat emerged reached 61%, compared to the five-year average of 67%. Winter wheat condition was rated 2% very poor, 4% poor, 21% fair, 58% good, and 15% excellent.
