Illinois crop progress for the week ending Nov. 5

There were 5.6 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending Nov. 5, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service Illinois Field Office. Statewide, the average temperature was 41.5 degrees, 7.6 degrees below normal. Precipitation averaged 0.22 inches, 0.7 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 8% very short, 19% short, 69% adequate, and 4% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 13% very short, 31% short, 55% adequate, and 1% surplus.

Corn harvested reached 90%, compared to the five-year average of 84%. Soybeans harvested reached 95%, compared to the five-year average of 88%. Winter wheat planted reached 95%, compared to the five-year average of 87%. Winter wheat emerged reached 77%, compared to the five-year average of 64%. Winter wheat condition was rated 1% very poor, 5% poor, 21% fair, 56% good, and 17% excellent.
