There were 4.3 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending Oct. 29, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service Illinois Field Office. Statewide, the average temperature was 57.6 degrees, 5.8 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 1.25 inches, 0.7 inches above normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 7% very short, 16% short, 62% adequate, and 15% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 8% very short, 33% short, 55% adequate, and 4% surplus.

Corn harvested reached 81%, compared to the five-year average of 77%. Soybeans harvested reached 89%, compared to the five-year average of 82%. Winter wheat planted reached 90%, compared to the five-year average of 78%. Winter wheat emerged reached 63%, compared to the five-year average of 50%. Winter wheat condition was rated 1% poor, 34% fair, 45% good, and 20% excellent.
