There were 4.3 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending Oct. 22, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service Indiana Field Office. Statewide, the average temperature was 52.9 degrees, 0.9 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.57 inches, 0.20 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 12% very short, 27% short, 56% adequate, and 5% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 20% very short, 33% short, 45% adequate, and 2% surplus.

Corn harvested reached 42%, compared to the five-year average of 54%. Soybeans harvested reached 65%, compared to the five-year average of 67%. Winter wheat planted reached 57%, compared to the five-year average of 67%. Winter wheat emerged reached 23%, compared to the five-year average of 35%.
