There were 6.5 days suitable for fieldwork during the week ending Aug. 27, according to the USDA’s National Agricultural Statistics Service Illinois Field Office. Statewide, the average temperature was 80.9 degrees, 7.3 degrees above normal. Precipitation averaged 0.49 inches, 0.23 inches below normal. Topsoil moisture supply was rated 8% very short, 35% short, 56% adequate, and 1% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 12% very short, 34% short, and 54% adequate.

Corn dough reached 85%, compared to the five-year average of 88%. Corn dented reached 54%, compared to the five-year average of 57%. Corn mature reached 7%, compared to the five-year average of 6%. Corn condition was rated 4% very poor, 6% poor, 23% fair, 59% good, and 8% excellent. Soybeans setting pods reached 88%, compared to the five-year average of 90%. Soybean condition was rated 3% very poor, 7% poor, 22% fair, 55% good, and 13% excellent.
