MURPHYSBORO, Ill. — Free training in how a participate in a local Christmas Bird Count will be from 10 a.m. to noon Nov. 21 at the Jackson County Extension office, 402 Ava Road, Murphysboro.
The Christmas Bird Count has been active for over a century through the National Audubon Society. The workshop will cover:
• National Audubon policies
• COVID-19 guidelines
• Local count circles
• Counting basics (and practice counting)
• How to sign up for free bird counting events

Horticulture for the Holidays
ROCKFORD, Ill. — Join the Winnebago County Master Gardener Program for its annual Horticulture for the Holidays workshop from 9 to 11 a.m. Nov. 19 at the Winnebago County Extension office, 1040 N. 2nd St., Rockford.
Participants will participate in a make-and-take workshop that demonstrates how to incorporate the garden into seasonal celebrations and gift giving. The workshop will be led by Master Gardeners Beth Edwards and Brenda Smith.
This year’s project will be Christmas gnomes using tomato cages, pine branches and felt.
