Calendar: Worm invaders

The online program Jumping Worms: A New Invader will be at 1:30 p.m. April 26.

Jumping worms are a recent discovery in Illinois, being first found in 2015. Since then, this invasive species has been discovered in many counties across the state, impacting gardens, lawns, and natural areas. Chris Evans, Extension forestry and research specialist and interim Master Naturalist coordinator, will cover ecology, distribution and impact of jumping worms in Illinois as well as discuss management options and spread.

Litter pickup

CARLINVILLE, Ill. — 4-H members will pick up litter across Carlinville from 1 to 3 p.m. April 24 as part of the National 4-H Day of Service.

Seed Library kickoff

GALESBURG, Ill. — Help celebrate the kickoff of Galesburg Public Library’s seed library from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. April 25 at the library, 410 E. Simmons St., Galesburg.

Learn about the new seed library and about planning your garden from Extension Horticulture Educator Chris Enroth, plus receive supplies to get a few plants started.

Edible Walk

Livestock ID Day

LOOGOOTEE, Ind. — 4-H Livestock Identification Day will be from 6 to 7:30 p.m. ET April 28 at the Martin County 4-H Fairgrounds, 2666 US Hwy. 50, Loogootee.

The event is for all livestock species and types of animals needing tags, including beef and dairy cattle, goats and sheep. For biosecurity reasons, swine tags will be distributed to apply at home.

Spring Workshop

Plant sale

SIMPSON, Ill. — A plant sale will be from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. April 30, May 6 and May 7 at the Dixon Springs Agricultural Center, 354 IL-145, Simpson.

In addition to various kinds of vegetable plants, flowering plants, houseplants, and succulents, locally made products will be available to purchase. Extension master gardener volunteers will be available with information about certain topics and 4-H members will have crafts and activities for kids.

Plant Auction

GREENCASTLE, Ind. — The eighth annual Plant Auction will be from 9:15 a.m. to 2 p.m. ET April 30 in the Goat Barn at the Putnam County Fairgrounds, 191 N. US Hw. 231, Greencastle.

Items to be auctioned will include annuals, perennials, herbs, houseplants and shrubs.

The event is sponsored by the Putnam County Master Gardener Association. Money raised will help fund post-secondary education scholarships.

Nature Adventures Day

WATERLOO, Ill. — Nature Adventures Day will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. April 30 at the Baebler Educational Farm, 4022 Jj Road, Waterloo.

Activities will include:

• Guided hikes through the woods at 10:30 a.m. and noon (meet at shed),

• Herpetology presentation by Bob Weck at 11:00am (pavilion).

• Kite flying (limited kites available or bring your own).

• Fish and learn how to make your own spinner bait lure (limited fishing poles available).

• Educational nature activities for youth. Marshmallows available to roast on an open fire.

• Bring a picnic lunch and enjoy the outdoors
