From the Fields: Solid crop yields

Deidra Roell is a fifth-generation grain farmer in Washington County in southern Indiana.

With the dry weather so far this fall, we have been harvesting pretty consistently since mid-September at our farms in Washington County in southern Indiana.

There were some who started a few weeks before us and some just really getting started around us the end of September.

For us, early beans were just about perfect moisture-wise, but once we moved through the first 150 acres or so of beans, we ran out of fit beans and had to switch to corn harvest.

We have been running corn harvest for one and a half weeks or so now. The moisture on it has been running about 15%, allowing us to bypass the dryer and dump corn directly in the bins and filling early fall contracts by delivering corn directly from the field.

Yields have been pretty good, no bin busters yet, but solid performers so far. The corn has been more consistent performance yield-wise than the soybeans, but no real disappointments or loss so far with either crop.
