Macon County wheat yield tops 112 bushels per acre

SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Twelve Illinois counties averaged triple-digit wheat yields in 2025, according to the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s National Agricultural Statistics Service.

Macon County had the top average of 112.3 bushels per acre, followed by Carroll’s 111.6 and Edgar’s 110.2.

Macon harvested 2,280 wheat acres for a total production of 256,000 bushels. Carroll farmers produced 327,000 bushels from 2,930 harvest acres, while Edgar harvested 1,970 wheat acres with a total production of 217,000 bushels.

Other counties with 100-plus yield averages, harvested acres and total production were:

• Ogle — 106.9 bushels per acre, 4,900 harvested acres, 524,000 bushels produced

• Schuyler — 104.6 bushels per acre, 1,090 harvested acres, 114,000 bushels produced

• Clark — 104.5 bushels per acre, 3,980 harvested acres, 416,000 bushels produced

• Bureau — 102.8 bushels per acre, 2,500 harvested acres, 257,000 bushels produced

• Champaign — 102.1 bushels per acre, 4,190 harvested acres, 428,000 bushels produced

• Green — 101.9 bushels per acre, 3,220 harvested acres, 328,000 bushels produced

• Henry — 100.6 bushels per acre, 790 harvested acres, 79,500 bushels produced

• McLean — 100.4 bushels per acre, 2,250 harvested acres, 226,000 bushels produced

• Gallatin — 100.3 bushels per acre, 3,650 harvested acres, 366,000 bushels produced

Top Producers

Illinois’ top winter wheat producer — Washington County — averaged 85.4 bushels per acre across 65,800 harvested acres, from 73,100 acres planted, and production reaching 5.622 million bushels.

Randolph County wheat growers harvested 3.327 million bushels, averaging 90.9 bushels per acre across 36,600 harvested acres, from 40,500 planted acres.

Perry County produced 2.688 million bushels with an 81.2 bushels per acre average from 33,100 harvested acres, from 36,400 planted acres.

Winter wheat farmers in St. Clair County hauled in 2.161 million bushels, averaging 91.2 bushels per acre from 23,700 acres, from 26,400 planted acres.

Wayne County produced 2.114 million bushels of wheat with an average of 91.1 bushels per acre across 23,200 acres, from 25,700 planted acres.

Other counties with seven-digit production were:

• Monroe, 1.963 million bushels, 79.8 bushels per acre average, 24,600 harvested acres

• Marion, 1.694 million bushels, 77.7 bushels per acre average, 21,800 harvested acres

• Jackson, 1.648 million bushels, 79.6 bushels per acre average, 20,700 harvested acres

• Clay, 1.605 million bushels, 91.7 bushels per acre average, 17,500 harvested acres

• Franklin, 1.601 million bushels, 77.7 bushels per acre average, 20,600 harvested acres

• Madison, 1.408 million bushels, 82.8 bushels per acre average, 17,000 harvested acres

• Montgomery, 1.115 million bushels, 96.1 bushels per acre average, 11,600 harvested acres

• Richland, 1.1 million bushels, 92.4 bushels per acre average, 11,900 harvested acres

• DeKalb, 1.098 million bushels, 99.8 bushels per acre average, 11,000 harvested acres
