BILOXI, Miss. — Illinois Soybean Association District 6 Director Rob Shaffer has been appointed by the U.S. secretary of agriculture to serve as a director on the United Soybean Board for a three-year term.
ISA At-Large Director David Wessel, of Chandlervile, was also reappointed to continue his service on the board.
Shaffer, of El Paso, was officially sworn in during a virtual ceremony on Feb. 6.
He also attended USB’s February board meeting in Biloxi on the Gulf Coast in southern Mississippi, where he joined fellow directors, including Wessel, to evaluate soy checkoff investments spanning food, feed, fuel, industrial uses, exports and sustainable production.
“I’m honored to represent Illinois soybean farmers on the United Soybean Board and help guide investments that create new opportunities across food, fuel and global markets,” he said. “Ensuring farmer checkoff dollars deliver real value is a responsibility I take seriously.”
As Shaffer begins his term alongside Wessel, their combined experience and perspectives will help ensure Illinois priorities remain well represented while advancing initiatives that support profitability and long-term growth for U.S soybean farmers.
