In western Washington County, 90% of the crops are in and up. There’s a little bit of replanting going on in the western part of Washington County. In the eastern part of Washington County and parts of Perry County and Jefferson County, guys are finishing up, but for the most part, we’re about done.
For my own farm, we set a record. We were completed with planting everything — corn and beans — by May 1, which has never happened before. I planted all my beans first, started April 15 and planted for the next 10 days then switched straight over to corn on April 25 and finished up on May 1.
We were dry in April and that allowed everybody to get going in Washington County and St. Clair County. Then we caught a little bit of rain. We’re in good shape, moisture-wise. If you get away from our neighborhood, over in Perry County and along the Mississippi River, they’re a little dry and they need some rain.
