WASHINGTON — The U.S. Department of Agriculture increased average corn yield projections across the “I” states in its Nov. 9 crop production report.
Illinois Corn
Based on Nov. 1 conditions, Illinois’ average corn yield is forecast at a record 215 bushels per acre, up 13 bushels from 2021 and 5 bushels above the 2018 record, according to USDA.
Production is forecast at 2.27 billion bushels, 3% higher than last year’s production of nearly 2.192 billion bushels.
The corn for grain harvested area is estimated at 10.55 million acres compared to 10.85 million acres in 2021.
Indiana Corn
USDA increased Indiana’s average corn yield by 4 bushels from last month to 191 bushels per acre, 4 bushels below the 2021 record.
Hoosier State production is estimated at 964.55 million bushels, down from nearly 1.028 billion bushels last year.
Harvested acres are forecast at 5.05 million and last year’s was 5.27 million.
Iowa Corn
The average Iowa corn yield was increased by 2 bushels from last month’s forecast to 202 bushels per acre, 2 bushels below 2021, based on Nov. 1 conditions.
Total production is estimated at nearly 2.515 billion bushels compared to 2.54 billion bushels last year. Iowa’s harvested acres of 12.45 would match 2021.
Illinois Soybeans
The state’s average soybean yield is projected at 64 bushels per acre, unchanged from last month and down 1 bushel from the 2021 record.
With harvested acres of 10.7 million, Illinois is anticipated to produce 684.8 million bushels. The state had 10.51 million harvested acres in 2021 with total production of 683.15 million bushels.
Indiana Soybeans
USDA left Indiana’s average yield unchanged from the October estimate at 59 bushels per acre, 1 bushel under the 2021 record.
Harvested acres are projected at 5.83 million and total production of 343.97 million bushels, compared to 338.4 million bushels produced from 5.64 million acres last year.
Iowa Soybeans
USDA increased Iowa’s average yield by 1 bushel from last month to an average of 59 bushels per acre, 4 bushels lower than 2021.
Iowa’s harvested acres of 10.02 million are projected to produce 591.18 million bushels. The state produced 631.89 million bushels in 2021 on 10.03 million harvested acres.
Nationwide
U.S. corn production for grain is forecast at 13.93 billion bushels, up less than 1% from the previous forecast and 8% lower the 15.074 billion bushels produced in 2021.
Based on conditions as of Nov. 1, the nation’s yields are expected to average 172.3 bushels per harvested acre, up 0.4 bushel from the previous forecast, but down 4.4 bushels from last year.
Area harvested for grain, forecast at 80.844 million acres, is unchanged from the previous forecast and down 5% from the previous year’s 85.318 million acres.
U.S. soybean production is forecast at just over 4.345 billion bushels, up 1% from the previous forecast, but 3% lower than last year’s 4.465 billion bushels.
The nation’s average soybean yield is expected to average 50.2 bushels per harvested acre, up 0.4 bushel from the previous forecast, but down 1.5 bushels from 2021.
Area harvested for beans in the United States is forecast at 86.631 million acres, unchanged from the previous forecast, but up less than 1% from the 86.312 million acres in 2021.
