FFA state officers hit the road for banquet season

TRAFALGAR, Ind. — For most of their year of service, the 2020-2021 Indiana FFA state officers have had to use a virtual platform.

However, as spring progresses and mandates and regulations related to stopping the spread of COVID-19 have begun to relax, the young leaders have been able to travel and interact in person with other Hoosier FFA members.

“I’ve already had my first banquet,” said Evan Coblentz, Indiana FFA treasurer, adding that almost all of his teammates have already been to at least one banquet.

Coblentz said traveling the state and being able to meet FFA members in-person is what the state officer team is all about.

All of the officers have worked hard to craft their keynote speeches so FFA members and guests at the banquets or other events have a lasting takeaway, Coblentz said.

Reaching Out

Derick Williams, Indiana FFA reporter, said he has had a blast finally getting to travel the state and reach out to members. He has already been to four banquets and has traveled in almost every direction in the state.

Williams said it has been nice to travel to several districts instead of being limited to just one like he was during National FFA Week in February.

“Seeing members is a big blessing. Up until February we haven’t had a chance to travel,” he said, adding that to help lift up members and guests who are at the events his keynote is a bit more on the funny side.

Coblentz said he and his fellow officers are really fortunate that they are broadening the scope of FFA members they are capable of reaching.

After the banquets, they have the chance to interact with members and their families, he added.
