Quinlan: Tired of being tired

I covered a Purdue Extension webinar about chronic tiredness. This one hit home. Lately I can’t get enough sleep.

Between shorter days, fussy babies and COVID-related stress, it’s been a struggle. But there have been a few game-changers that get me through the days.

Here are some of the ways I combat sleepiness:

1. Ask for help. It’s not always easy to do. But if you are getting four or five hours of sleep, or are just struggling in general, don’t be afraid to reach out. Your support system is important to your physical and mental health.

2. Sip green tea or ice-cold water. It gives me an energy boost without too much caffeine.

3. Walk away — from whatever you’re doing — for five minutes. Stretch.

4. Try refocusing on a new task to mix things up a little bit.

5. Have a protein-packed snack to fuel you.

Talk to your doctor if chronic tiredness is making your life difficult.
