Quinlan: So much more than corn in Indiana

I write about corn and soybeans frequently, but it’s not every week that I get to write about tomatoes.

This week Red Gold announced a partnership with a nonprofit that supports families of America’s fallen soldiers. Not only was it touching to see how the program will affect so many lives, it was interesting to learn more about Indiana’s involvement in the tomato industry.

Red Gold is based in Elwood, Indiana. Most of the family farmers who produce tomatoes for the company are in Indiana, Ohio and Michigan.

Red Gold is one of America’s top producers of ketchup, canned tomatoes and other products.

I love learning about the many agricultural products we grow in Indiana. Our farmers work so hard to raise safe, healthy foods for us to put on our tables.
