We’ve had some really good movement in the markets and we took advantage. With harvest approaching quickly we decided to start trying to price our old crop corn still in the bins. We had a great couple weeks with positive numbers on the board and a really good positive basis at the ethanol plant. We contracted some and hauled it and the price just keeps creeping up, so we keep selling as we get good movement.
We have to clean everything out before fall anyway, so this really couldn’t come at a better time. We also sold a large portion of beans for over $9 fall delivery this past week. What a relief it was to see that price when we were thinking things would be in the mid-$8 range just a few months ago.
Keep futures fresh in your mind as we move into harvest and lock in some good selling points moving forward. I think we could see a trend going the other direction once we start seeing combines roll. Hope everyone is doing well and I hope that you are getting excited for harvest like I am.
Hope, Ind.
