Illinois crop progress for week ending Aug. 17

There were 5.9 days suitable for fieldwork in the week ending Aug. 17, according to the National Agricultural Statistics Service, U.S. Department of Agriculture.

Topsoil moisture supply was rated 13% very short, 23% short, 58% adequate, and 6% surplus. Subsoil moisture supply was rated 15% very short, 22% short, 57% adequate, and 6% surplus.

Corn silking reached 99%, compared to 98% last year, and the five-year average of 98%. Corn dough reached 81%, compared to 83% last year, and the five-year average of 79%. Corn dented reached 34%, compared to 37% last year, and the five-year average of 30%. Corn condition was rated 4% very poor, 7% poor, 26% fair, 46% good, and 17% excellent.

Soybeans blooming reached 94%, compared to 96% last year, and the five-year average of 96%. Soybeans setting pods reached 87%, compared to 88% last year, and the five-year average of 83%. Soybeans condition was rated 4% very poor, 9% poor, 27% fair, 43% good, and 17% excellent.
