Calendar: Celebrate National Go Fishing Day

WEST LAFAYETTE, Ind. — Get ready to celebrate National Go Fishing Day on June 18. This day has been celebrated since the 1950s, when it was created as an opportunity for people of all ages and backgrounds to come together and enjoy a peaceful day on the water. It’s also a great way to learn about conservation, sustainability, ecology, wildlife management, and our aquatic ecosystems.

Walk & Talks

URBANA, Ill. — Illinois Extension’s Walk & Talks series will be 2 to 3 p.m. June 16, at Crystal Lake Park, 206 W. Park St., Urbana.

Walk & Talks are a short interactive lesson or activity, followed by a refreshing walk on paved paths.

Other Walk & Talks will be June 23 Champaign Farmers Market Parking Lot, 302 N. Neil St., Champaign; and June 30 at Meadowbrook Park, 2950 S. Race St., Champaign.

Garden Tour

DANVILLE, Ill. — Vermilion County master gardeners will host Garden Tours and Vegetable Talks, 5:30 p.m.to 6:30 p.m. June 16 at Douglas Discovery Garden, 520 S. Bowman Ave., Danville.

There will be guided garden tours and information about the vegetables grown at the garden.

Plant, Grow, Eat

CROWN POINT, Ind. — The Plant, Grow, Eat Workshop will be 5:30 to 7 p.m. CT June 17 at Lake County Extension, 2291 N. Main St., Crown Point.

Participants in grades 3-12 will plant their own container herb garden to take home, while learning about where their food comes from.

Sourdough Basics

CROWN POINT, Ind. — Sourdough Basics Workshop will be 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. CT June 18 at Lake County Extension, 2291 N. Main St., Crown Point.

Unlock the secret of naturally fermented bread with this beginner-friendly workshop. Participants will learn the science of sourdough fermentation, how to make their own starter from scratch, the health benefits of natural fermentation, and sourdough baking basics and tasting.

Intro to STEM

VEVAY, Ind. — Intro to STEM: Discovery Workshop will be 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. ET June 19 at STEM Lab, Switzerland County Technology Building, 708 W. Seminary St., Vevay,

This hands-on workshop introduces youth to robotics, circuits, coding, building tools, and creative maker challenges. Participants will rotate through fun, themed stations such as Robot Ridge, Maker Meadow, Circuit Canyon, and Microbit Marshlands, and will experience a live demonstration of a robotic arm and 3D printer. No experience is needed — just curiosity and a willingness to explore.

Garden Walk

URBANA, Ill. — Garden Walk 2026 presented by the Champaign County master gardeners will be 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. June 20 in Champaign and Urbana.

Garden Walk participants will take a self-guided tour of private home gardens and public spaces, each highlighting different design approaches, vibrant plantings, and imaginative outdoor living ideas.

Open throughout the event with free admission will be the Market Place at the Idea Garden, South Lincoln Avenue, Urbana. Local vendors will offer handmade, garden-inspired items.

Talent Contest

INDIANAPOLIS — The 2026 Marion County Youth Talent Contest will begin at 6 p.m. ET June 22 at the Purdue Extension Building at the Indiana State Fairgrounds, 1202 E. 38th St., Suite 201, Indianapolis.

The contest is open to all Marion County residents 21 and younger. Winners are eligible for the Indiana State Fair Youth Talent Contest in August.

Farmer Briefing
