OGLESBY, Ill. — Illinois Valley Community College Agriculture in partnership with University of Illinois Extension will host the Fall Field Day, 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 6 at the IVCC Agriculture machine shed, located just south of campus, 815 N. Orlando Smith Road, Oglesby.

This event brings together farmers, students, University of Illinois researchers, and industry experts to discuss the latest research and updates from the field. Topics will include corn and soybean traits, insect pests, soil health, and industrial hemp.

A Matter of Balance

FISHERS, Ind. — A Matter of Balance: Managing Concerns About Falls will be 1 to 3 p.m. ET Tuesdays, Sept. 3-Oct. 22 at the Delaware Township Community Center, 9094 E. 131st St., Fishers.

Many older adults experience concerns about falling and restrict their activities. A Matter of Balance is a fall-prevention program that encourages cognitive restructuring. It is designed to reduce the fear of falling and increase activity levels among older adults.

Fall Gardening

URBANA, Ill. — The online program Fall Gardening will be noon to 1 p.m. Sept. 4.

Gardening does not have to be over as soon as the cool temperatures hit. There are many cold-tolerant crops that can be planted and enjoyed through the winter months with the right variety and cold weather protection.

Topics to be discussed include how to prepare for fall gardening, when to plant and what to plant.

Pumpkin Field Day

BELLEVILLE, Ill. — As Illinois ranks No. 1 in both pumpkin production and processing, it provides a great opportunity to bring together growers, producers, and those who love talking pumpkins.

University of Illinois Extension can help kick off the fall season with a Pumpkin Field Day on Sept. 5 at Eckert’s Orchard at 951 S. Green Mount Road, Belleville.

MARTINSVILLE, Ill. — The 75th annual Clark County 4-H BBQ will be 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sept. 7 at the Martinsville Community Center, 122 W. Cumberland St., Martinsville.

ROCKVILLE Ind. — The Vermillion-Parke Health Coalition Oxfam Hunger Banquet will begin at 6 p.m. ET Sept. 10 at the Parke County 4-H Community Building, 1472 US-41, Rockville.

The Oxfam Hunger Banquet brings awareness to global and local imbalance of food access. At the event, guests randomly select tickets that assign them to a high-, middle- or low-income tier based on global poverty statistics. Each income level has a different meal experience.
