Franklin College gets gift of 29 acres worth $1.8 million

FRANKLIN, Ind. (AP) — Franklin College said it has received a gift of land valued at $1.8 million.

The 29 acres near campus will become a biological field station for students and instructors, the college said.

The donation was made by Southpoint Farm LLC, formerly known as Franklin Tech Park Associates LLC, Indianapolis Business Journal reported.

The same group in 2008 donated 32 acres, which were turned into Hougham Woods Biological Field Station.

“The college’s active and thoughtful use of the Hougham Woods to expand its undergraduate and faculty research initiatives is absolutely phenomenal,” said Harry “Mac” McNaught, president of Southpoint Farm.

Franklin is a liberal arts college 20 miles south of Indianapolis.
