Quinlan: We need to talk

The murder of George Floyd. It’s a nightmare that keeps playing over and over again in our minds as a society. And it should. He can’t be forgotten or ignored. It’s important to think about, it’s important to talk about. It’s vital that we find answers.

It’s hard to write this blog because words carry so much weight, and this is so very heavy. I try to look at the future through a lens of love. But when I see the chaos and racism around us, it’s hard to be optimistic.

How do you find a cure to hate? How do you heal wounds that are so deep? I wish I had the answers. I know that my faith in God gives me hope, but I don’t know how to physically make the madness stop.

All I know is this: Racism is not OK. There are problems in our society that need addressed. And I pray that this world, this place where I’m raising my beautiful children, can find peace.

I’m confident that we, as the agricultural community, will do the right thing and use our voices to defy hate and racism. We are good at being kind and feeding people. Those are two things the world needs more of right now.
