SAE project: Fourth generation dairy farmer Rosalee Zehr started her project with six Holstein cows and four heifers and has increased her herd to 13 cows and 17 heifers. She has improved her herd by utilizing artificial insemination and in vitro fertilization to produce animals with elite genetics.
Zehr won Supreme Champion at the Illinois State Fair and received a Junior All-American nomination. She also has an embryo business that includes flushing embryos from a few of her elite cows, which she markets to other dairymen. At the family farm, Zehr does a variety of tasks, including feeding, milking, managing animal health and maintaining clean facilities.
