Quinlan: Farmers continue farming

It’s planting time — normally a time of hope for farmers. Hope for strong yields, better prices and a brighter future.

This year is yet another in a long line of hard times. Prices are low and prospects seem dim.

In the midst of it all, you will find farmers planting fields, tending their livestock and working hard until their backs ache. You’ll find them eating quick meals in tractor cabs and fixing broken parts. You’ll hear them humming along to music and trying to make the most of their day.

Thank God for farmers.

They know the meaning of hard work. They know the meaning of hard times. And they know what it takes to make it through another year.

This spring, if you find yourself passing a farmer in the fields, give a friendly wave or nod. We all need encouragement right now. Let’s lift up each other’s spirits.
