I started writing for AgriNews in 2013, in the midst of some pretty rough economic times for farmers. When it comes to finances, “good news” stories have been hard to come by.
I spend a lot of time writing about low commodity prices and trade woes, but this week I had the chance to think about something else: the difficulties that other agricultural businesses face in these hard times.
At the Country Elevator Conference, members of the National Grain and Feed Association gathered to learn about industry trends. I learned that it’s not just famers facing hard times — it’s input suppliers, grain elevators and other companies, as well.
It’s been several years of slim margins for many agribusinesses. This leads to countless late nights and stressful meetings for business owners across the country.
This holiday season, my hope is that no matter how you’re impacted by the tight margins in agriculture, you find time to focus on family and happy thoughts. I hope the 2020s have good things in store for all of us.
