On June 11, our state capital will experience a three-day flood of blue corduroy jackets. Yes, the 91st annual Illinois FFA State Convention will be taking place, and members from all across Illinois will come to Springfield to celebrate a successful year in the blue jacket and share their love of the FFA to the city’s citizens.
The convention begins on Tuesday with the first general session chaired by State Treasurer Taylor Hartke and State Reporter Shaylee Clinton, who will showcase how members “Elevate Their Experiences” in the blue and gold.
During the session, outstanding chapter and section presidents will be recognized, the winner of the National Chapter Award Growing Leaders area will be announced and State Secretary Miriam Hoffman will present her retiring address.
Later that evening will be the second general session chaired by State President Sophia Hortin and State Vice President Eliza Petry. In their session, entitled “Elevate Your Team,” we will be recognizing the winners of the Heritage and Cooperative Awards, recognizing winners of the Growmark Essay Contest and reveal the Outstanding Chapter and Section Reporters.
The National Southern Region Vice President, Jordan Stowe, will be giving a keynote address. After the session’s conclusion, members will have another opportunity for fellowship and fun at the State FFA Dance.
The next day begins early for the third general session chaired by Hoffman and Hartke. In this session, we share how members have “Elevated Their Impact.”
The first portion of proficiency awards, Sam Taylor Memorial Scholarship winners and new and re-chartered FFA chapters will all be showcased during this session, as well as the retiring address of Clinton.
Later that day will be the fourth general session chaired by Petry and Hoffman. This session will be all about “Elevating Your Voice.”
We will be awarding the second round of proficiency award winners, highlighting the top Illinois Foundation FFA donors, recognizing overall National Chapter Award Rankings and hearing the retiring address of Hartke. It is sure to be a session you don’t want to miss.
Closing out the day will be Clinton and Hortin chairing the fifth general session. This session’s theme will be “Elevating Your Accomplishments,” as the session includes highlighting our Stars over Illinois, those receiving their state degree and the retiring address of Petry.
We will be starting our final day of convention with the election of the 2019-2020 Illinois FFA Major State Officer Team. That afternoon will be the sixth and final general session chaired by Petry and Clinton.
During the session, we will announce the Premier Chapter Award winner and winners of Career and Leadership Development Events this year and close it with the installation of the new state officer team.
“State convention is a wonderful time for students to come together in fellowship with members from all over the state of Illinois. The sessions and workshops offered for students to attend are great opportunities to elevate their leadership skills and gather resources and ideas to bring back to their communities,” Petry said.
This year’s convention is sure to be one you do not want to miss. Not only will there be exciting sessions, but an agriscience fair, career show and workshops will all take place, as well.
Be sure to attend the 91st Illinois FFA State Convention on June 11-13 at the Bank of Springfield Center in Springfield. We can’t wait to see you there.
