‘Building Our Future’: Illinois State Fair opens with Coliseum ribbon cutting

Gov. J.B. Pritzker cuts the ribbon to officially reopen the Coliseum, surrounded by those who played different roles in its reconstruction and renovation. The 60,000-square-foot Coliseum was closed in October 2016 after engineers found structural deficiencies in the 1901 structure after a beam fell inside the building. The Coliseum remained closed for two Illinois State Fairs and also was off limits to a number of non-State Fair shows and events that had been using it. Reconstruction of the building started in January 2019 and was completed on Aug. 2, just days before the 2019 Illinois State Fair opened.
