The final straw for Plant ‘19 broke on Sunday. We are officially done planting. We got all our beans planted without much issue. The corn we had been waiting on some bottom ground to dry out. It kind of did, so we got what we had inputs on hand for planted, hoping Monday we would finish the rest. Over 2 inches of rain Saturday night through Monday morning finished that dream off.

We had filed a prevent plant claim against several acres hoping to still plant them. We ended up with only leaving about 100 acres prevent planted. The hope is to take this time to go in and do some maintenance and needed repairs to the ground, improve some drainage and take out some scrub brush that seems hard to control.

On a positive note, the wheat is looking really good. We should be on track to start wheat harvest in less than 30 days. We have been very blessed in our immediate area to have the crop we do.

You don’t have to drive very far to find lots of unplanted acres. But we all need to remember: No matter what happens this year, there’s always next year.
