Rain, rain please slow down. We don’t really want the rain to stop, just maybe slow down on frequency and volume. Its been a busy week. We got started sidedressing the corn that still needs nitrogen. We finished spraying all the corn. Now to get all the beans sprayed. It has been busy, but not terrible. With the ground conditions, it hasn’t been great for most guys. We are on trend to have record number of prevent plant acres, and if the forecast holds true, we will have a record number of drowned out or flooded acres in the state and across the country. There is talk of a 1993 flood repeat. This is not what we as farmers want to see. But luckily the grain market does seem to be willing to reward us for our struggles.

As we go through the next few months, keep in touch with your neighbors and fellow farmer friends across the country. There already have been reports of several farmer suicides because of stress. This is not something that is easy to talk about, but we need to. We all need to be strong for one another, but yet be willing to admit when we need help. There’s no shame in getting help. We are all stressed to the max, stretched thin with thin profits from last year. Keep in touch and take time to go to lunch or dinner with them. That hour you lose might just save a family a lot of heartache. So, just like we hope the rain slows down, slow down and take a little bit of time for yourself, your neighbor and your friends.
