Another dry week in my area. It seems like we are missing all the rains. They either go north or south of us. At my house, we only received 0.3” the whole week. We did have one field farther south receive over an inch last week. Fungicide and insecticide were applied to all, but one of our cornfields earlier this week. The Japanese beetles aren’t nearly as bad as the last couple years, but they are still feeding on the silks in some areas, so we added insecticide to certain fields. Our beans look good, but still haven’t grown very much with little rain and high heat.

With the scorching hot weather last week, our cattle were looking for fresh grass to eat and were reaching through the fences. So, we spent two days checking and repairing all our fences. Last year, we had issues with the stems of the grass poking the cattle in the eye and then getting pinkeye, so we have been clipping pastures to hopefully eliminate that problem this year. Hope everyone made it through the heat wave safe and sound.
