It was finally back to work for me this week after spending the last two weeks at the county fair and the Iowa State Fair. It sure is nice to be back in the swing of things. The boys went back to school on Wednesday, so the farm has been pretty quiet the last couple of days! Early in the week, we cut hay, got it baled up and hauled from the field without a raindrop! We spent the rest of our time around the shop getting the trucks ready to go for harvest. A lot of talk has been going around about when guys are going to start harvesting. Everyone is definitely starting to feel that itch to get in the fields. The kids were playing with a couple ears of corn that they pulled out of the field the other day. So we had to test it, just for fun. A couple different samples we had measured 24 percent and 31 percent. No use to get into a hurry yet. We’ll let Mother Nature dry the corn instead of paying the gas man. Most of the corn is really starting to turn brown and dry up. Some earlier beans are starting to turn and lose their leaves in some places. The double-crop beans could really use a good shower. Saturday, I spent the day in Indianapolis for the Indiana Farm Bureau delegate session. It is exciting to be a part of policy recommendations and voting on which to include into Farm Bureau policy. Saturday evening, we celebrated Conner’s ninth birthday. It’s hard to believe he is 9 already! If you are like us, now is the time for all kinds of appreciation dinners, so take time and enjoy it!
