GALENA, Ill. – The University of Illinois Extension will host a mini nature camp from 8 a.m. to noon Oct. 14 at Horseshoe Mound Preserve, 1679 N. Blackjack Road, Galena.
Activities will include a nature hike, migration games, and nature arts and crafts. Children also will learn about monarchs and their migration, stormwater movement, and outdoor recreation/fishing skills.
Children from kindergarten through high school are invited to attend and 4-H membership is not required.
Cost is $3 which will be used to provide participants with a “surprise” snack during the day. Register by Oct. 9 by calling 815-858-2273 or visit go.illinois.edu/jsw.
Horseshoe Mound features a central gathering area, viewing scopes, and scenic outlooks with views across three states. “We’ve planned a fantastic day full of hands-on activities and nature games for your children to enjoy out at Horseshoe Mound, at peak Fall color time,” said Extension educator Jackie de Batista. “I can’t think of a better place to spend this Columbus Day morning out of school.”
