BOUBONNAIS, Ill. – Holly Froning, master gardener coordinator, will discuss the key characteristics of 22 common lawn and garden weed species found in Illinois at 10 a.m. April 8 at the Kankakee County Extension office, 1650 Commerce Drive, Bourbonnais. All too often, homeowners struggle with invading weeds. They believe they are trying to control one species when in fact they have another species entirely. Poor weed control usually results.
Proper weed identification is essential in order to achieve effective weed management. Knowing what to look for and where to look makes weed identification considerably easier. Some identifying characteristics to be covered in this program include detailed descriptions of these species’ leaves, stems, flowers, roots, growth habit, and life cycle. Weed identification resources will be discussed as well.
