Every year, during the third week of September, National Farm Safety and Health Week is recognized across the country.

Farming is one of the most dangerous occupations in the United States and in Indiana.

According to a report from Purdue University’s Agricultural Safety and Health Program, there were 34 work-related on-farm deaths in the state in 2018.

Of the total number of fatalities, 44% were tractor-related incidents, representing the fourth-highest annual number for the past 25 years.

This is a sobering reminder to put safety first this harvest season.
