This week I attended a Women in Agribusiness seminar. Lt. Gov. Suzanne Crouch, state Sen. Jean Leising, state Rep. Melanie Wright and Julia Wickard, assistant commissioner and agricultural liaison at Indiana Department of Environmental Management, are all strong female women involved in agriculture.

Hearing their stories was inspiring. Towards the end of their discussion, someone from the audience asked how they balance work and home and family life.

Their response? It’s incredibly hard to do.

They all admitted to struggling with that balance.

Every. Last. One.

It’s not easy to be a wife, mother, businesswoman, farmer, politician — fill in the blank.

As women, we wear so many different hats, which is a great thing. But when it comes to that awful feeling of guilt when we have to say “no” to a birthday party, vacation, or volunteer opportunity, that doesn’t feel so great.

All of the women in that room agreed — it’s OK to say no. You have to say no.

You can’t do everything and you can’t control everything. So, find what you’re passionate about, what you want to focus on and do it with all of your heart.
