With Christmas right around the corner, this time of year typically tends to be full of holiday hustle and bustle — at least it usually seems this way for me.

Between my kids’ school Christmas programs, present shopping and participating in activities centered around holiday cheer, the month of December literally seems to fly by. Before I know it, the month usually is over in what barely seems like a blink of an eye, and I’m then preparing to ring in the new year.

While I love Christmas and celebrating the birth of Jesus Christ with friends and family, I sometimes find myself getting worn out from everything that goes along with the holiday season and, as my oldest sister calls it, a bit Grinch-like.

However, this year, after going through some personal ups and downs, and following a father-son farm family that laid to rest one of their young family members at the tender age of 6, I realized just how precious the holiday season is.

Although I may not find the perfect presents and wrap them in coordinating gift wrap and bows, I have made a promise to myself this year to make sure to be around for the holiday season and watch my children enjoy the holiday.

As the new year is right around the corner, I am hoping to take this attitude into the 2019 and appreciate all the big and little things life has to offer.
