Corn maze honors military

LAFAYETTE, Ind. — An 18-acre corn maze honoring America’s heroes was unveiled at Exploration Acres, the largest corn maze and pumpkin patch in northwest Indiana.

The maze’s design recreates the famous photograph, “Raising the Flag on Iwo Jima.” Taken 75 years ago by Joe Rosenthal, it was the only image to win the Pulitzer Prize for photography in the same year as its publication.

Emblems for the Marine Corps, Army, Navy, Air Force and Coast Guard surround the iconic image. The emblem for health care organizations was added to honor medical heroes during the pandemic.

“This maze is a salute to all those who have bravely served our country in uniform,” said Tim Fitzgerald, president and CEO of Exploration Acres. “We also wanted to honor our healthcare professionals, who are on the frontlines here at home treating COVID-19 patients during the pandemic.”

Exploration Acres opened on Sept. 18 and will remain open until Oct. 25. Guests can pick pumpkins, go on hay rides, rent fire pits and purchase food and beverages at the farm.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Exploration Acres will require guests to wear masks for hay rides and at times when physical distancing is not possible.

Hand-sanitizing stations will be available throughout the barn lot and activity area. Guests are encouraged to bring personal hand sanitizer or sanitizing wipes for use in remote parts of the property, like the corn maze, woods and pumpkin patch.

Tickets can be purchased online or at the gate.

Exploration Acres is located at 6042 Newcastle Road, Lafayette, IN 47905. To learn more, visit www.explorationacres.com.
